Above is a reproduction of a bowie made by William Butcher sometime between 1830 and 1837.

Welcome to Fogarty Knives!

I'm Chuck Fogarty and I am Fogarty Knives. Its 2010 and Ive been making handmade knives for 10 years in the beautiful mountains of Red Hill, NC. Knifemaking in general, and bladesmithing in particular, connect me with our pre-industrial past and open windows of history for me that I would never be able to experience otherwise. It also allows me to work with my hands making functional using tools and works of art which will outlast me by a considerable time.

Im disabled so I don't produce a whole lot, usually about 8-10 knives a year is my average. I sell or trade some of what I do make, so check back once in a while, I may just have something that is waiting for a home. I dont usually take orders or do custom work at all, but if you have something you are looking for let me know and if I find it interesting as a project I will put it on my list. I'm ill a lot of the time and I work sometimes VERY slowly, so I prefer to work on what I enjoy doing. Here lately Ive been doing a lot of historical bowie reproductions and Ive also been doing some Japanese style bladesmithing.

Check out the knife info page, Im in the process of putting some interesting content on there. I'll have info on upcoming projects and things that I think are generally interesting.
